purpose of the function                                                                                                                                                                       
To analyse and improve the processes of a business continually.  You will work closely with the production team and quality specialists to identify potential for improvement and improve inefficiencies and gaps.          
What the role involves: Reporting to the Production Manager, the role will include but not limited to: * Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice Lean/Continuous improvement vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve operational performance * Contribute to the integration of new projects/processes to ensure that they are established in a way that will yield a high level of manufacturing efficiency * Review and communicate the impact of process changes, new business, and workload on Lean/Continuous improvement activities * Travel within the Group of companies may be necessary to support Group Lean and Continuous Improvement activities * Implement and support cultural change across the organisation and drive business improvement * Complete 6-monthly Lean/Continuous improvement assessment, review results and propose actions to ensure positive progression

Strategy and Development * Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice Lean/Continuous improvement vision, strategy, policies, processes  and procedures to aid and improve operational performance. * Contribute to the integration of new projects/processes to ensure that they are established in a way that will yield a high level of manufacturing efficiency. * Review and communicate the impact of process changes, new business and workload on Lean/Continuous improvement activities. * Travel within the companies may be necessary to support Group Lean and Continuous Improvement activities.    
 General and Task Management * Implement and support cultural change across the organisation and drive business improvement. * Develop, deliver and support delivery of business improvement initiatives in line with Lean/Continuous improvement vision and strategy. * Re-introduction and development of ‘SIMPLE’ type program to encourage ‘quick win’ improvements through a managed process. * Review, develop and re-launch ‘Idea of the month’ program. * Complete 6-monthly Lean/Continuous improvement assessment, review results and propose actions to ensure positive progression. * Introduction and integration of 5s principles across the site with systems in place to ensure new ways of working are maintained. * Report on progress of projects, understanding the risks, dependencies, budgets resourcing, issues, critical milestones. Act/manage action to ensure success. * Define develop and publish business improvement process documentation to reflect best practice. * Undertake business process analysis and statistical analysis for improvement projects and to support wider change. * Lead, define and develop continuous improvement activities designed to improve performance such as the planning and running of * Lean/Continuous improvement events. * Attend various meetings and complete/communicate actions. * Produce written reports and make presentations. * Undertake continuous training and development to ensure that current thinking is in line with best practice. * Identify business improvement opportunities within the organisation. * Ensure relevant on-going learning and development of all employees in Lean/Continuous improvement tools and communication methods. * Coach and facilitate teams and individuals to identify and implement improvement opportunities. * Identify and deploy the technical skill sets, resource levels and systems to deliver projects including the engagement of external resources as required. * Input and hold responsibility for Lean/Continuous improvement manufacturing budgets. * Prepare the annual Lean/Continuous improvement budgets/forecasts and all related Capital Expenditure proposals as well as ensuring compliance with legal standards. Manage the budget from identification to project completion. * Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance.

Explain the cost of not doing so in terms of lost customers, reduced morale, labour, overdues, materials etc. * Work with the Quality Department and Management to develop this culture through training and toolbox talks and actively encourage the employees to make contributions to improve the quality standing of the business. * Facilitate training throughout your department to ensure that there is flexibility within the Company, as demand fluctuates between departments, to ensure effectivity and capability in maintaining and meeting targets. It is policy that career progression can occur within the business for those that demonstrate the aptitude, work ethic and commitment necessary. * Where appropriate arrange for employees under your jurisdiction to assist with stocktaking. * Ensure that where appropriate and cost effective, the latest technology is applied. This will reduce the business’s reliance on the vagaries of the labour market and ensure that we operate the business in the most cost-effective manner. The Company has to be protected as much as possible from the fact that, in a global market, labour costs will be higher in the UK than elsewhere in the world and to be competitive we need to be technologically driven rather than totally reliant on labour. * Carry out any other duties as requested by management as long as the requests are reasonable and do not put in danger yourself or any other employee/member of the public.          

professional qualification                                                                                                                                                                      
* Experience gained in a manufacturing/engineering environment in a similar position, ideally CI Lead * You will be an expert in use and deployment of Lean tools, techniques, and methods * Have experience in working effectively under pressure in a demanding manufacturing environment * HND or equivalent in a relevant discipline * Experience of implementing process improvement projects * Experience in leading cross functional project teams * Track record of delivering results * You will require the ability to drive due to local transport availability
