Role: Engineering Consultant
Responsibilities: With his knowledge of the Somerset area, Martin is responsible for further developing Cooper Golding’s brand. Focussed on recruiting engineering roles within the manufacturing sector, Martin is keen to engage with professionals across mechanical and electrical engineering, quality, design CNC and engineering managers.
Bio: Martin is South West born and bred and has over 10 years’ specialist recruitment experience. He has worked for both global and local recruitment firms and in 2017 launched his own business where he partnered with SMEs and large employers across Somerset and Devon, supporting the growth of local businesses by helping them attract, develop and retain the right people at the right time.
Having known Cooper Golding’s Director, Paula, for several years, Martin welcomed the opportunity to join a consultancy with shared values; where the candidate and client experience is king, working alongside passionate consultants to deliver a high-quality, solution-based recruitment service.
With full involvement in the recruitment lifecycle, Martin works with clients on initial development of job descriptions right through to interview and candidate onboarding. He seeks collaborative arrangements with the businesses he recruits for, really getting to know their culture which allows him to be an effective advocate in promoting these employers to potential new hires.
Martin utilises a wide range of tools to help the businesses he works with attract the very best people; leveraging recruitment software, social media, referrals, networking and advertising.
Home Town: Street, although he considers Langport his adopted home now
Loves: Being a dad to two amazingly creative and funny children. A somewhat fair-weather cyclist and late lycra-adopter; completed the Great Weston Ride in 2018, raising over £200 for Prostate Cancer UK. Passionate about music, he’s regularly attended Glastonbury Festival since 1995. A lifelong Bristol City supporter, nobody could call Martin a glory hunter, despite the fact they’ve won the Football League Trophy more times than any other team!
Dislikes: Coleslaw as a sandwich filling!
Random Fact: Almost left the Cavern Club in Exeter with Paul Draper’s (lead singer of Mansun) guitar, after he threw it in to the crowd. Turned out he actually wanted it back!
Career Advice: The grass might well be greener…but it isn’t always. Be sure you understand your own motivations when considering a new job. It might be that you can resolve this with your current employer and they’d be far happier to redeploy you rather than lose you altogether.
