What is required from the Business Development Manager?
To research, identify and support the delivery of new sales opportunities that result in sales growth for the business. Supporting internal and external departments with the development of marketing material and activity, identification of new innovation opportunities and new customer identification.
To understand the fundamental drivers of the business, customers, partners, and competitors, utilising and communicating insight to support smart business decisions in the pursuit of long-term business value.
 
What we need from you as a Business Development Manager?:
  • Undertake research and identify innovation opportunities in new or existing markets that fall within the competency centres scope of expertise.
  • Support internal and external departments by offering market insight and analysis that influence the development of new products and customers.
  • To further develop the business product portfolio utilising new and/or existing competences.
  • Fully understand the Competency Centres target markets and identify appropriate new customers.
  • Take ownership of developing an introduction strategy for these new customers and execute.
  • Liaise with Technical, R&D teams, Quality and Production Management to support any new potential development work and be the main customer contact for such work.
  • Support customer visits to the business sites.
  • Working with the Marketing team, develop, prepare and maintain marketing material for range of competencies
  • Continually develop general and basic technical knowledge of the business sectors required in the business
  • Undertake customer visits to support the sales efforts and develop a wider understanding of the customers requirements and product applications.
  • Work in conjunction with the Purchasing Department when liaising with the suppliers or industry experts or technical support.
  • To ensure that the annual personal Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) set by your line manager are understood and are treated as a priority, reporting on progress through the year with the aim of delivering or exceeding each specific target.
  • Act in a professional manner at all times and communicate in a language appropriate for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Act as an ambassador for the business and develop mutually beneficial working relationships that are built on trust, professionalism and respect.
  • To carry out any other task commensurate with the role.
 
What the Business Development Manager role requires: 
  • Demonstratable experience and track record of developing increased profitable business through new and existing business competences and markets.
  • Experience of working in a matrix organisation.
  • Experience of working in an engineering component manufacturing business.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • The ability to influence and negotiate with others.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to think creatively and strategically.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to be motivated by targets.
  • Demonstrable ability to use the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
