Team Leader
 £10.25 an hour - Full-time, Permanent
 
The client is the UK’s leading independent grounds maintenance specialist with operations right across the country. We provide generalist and specialist grounds maintenance services to various clients across different sectors including the MOD, local authorities, housing associations and corporate clients. This position is full time, permanent working 40 hours per week with an immediate start for the successful candidate. The hourly rate starts at £10.25 depending on experience/certifications and will be discussed at the interview stage.
Job Purpose
To co-ordinate daily operations for the team and daily delivery of core services*; encompassing service delivery, team performance and safety conformance.
*Core services delivered to clients include (but not limited to): Grounds Maintenance, Arboriculture, Waste management, Pest Control, Winterisation and Interiors.
Key Accountabilities:
  1. Quality, Health & Safety
  • Near miss and accident reporting
  • Contribute to data/evidence collation for accident investigations
  • Complete compliance activity for/with team, including point of work risk assessments and site-specific risk assessments
  • Report faults and liaise with Supervisor/Mechanic on the provision of working machinery/equipment for teams
  1. Financial Control
  • Proactive notification to Supervisor of purchasing requirements (e.g. consumables, PPE)
  • Timely reporting of completion of additional works to enable prompt invoicing
  • Alert Supervisor to anything that impacts upon cost control and budget
  1. Commercial
  • Ensure adherence to approved work schedules and reporting of any 'extra' reactive works undertaken by teams
  • Allocate and complete additional work when capacity permits
  • Contribute to site surveys for potential major accounts
  1. Service Delivery
  • Complete regular checks of quality of work being completed by teams
  • Reactive responding to any client queries relating to work of teams
  • Solve customer complaints or escalate as required (according to procedure)
  1. People
  • Ensure teams have correct PPE and uniform, take any corrective actions
  • Check team resources daily and make decisions to move resources around as needed
  • Monitor daily work completion and performance of teams
  • Report any capability, disciplinary and grievance matters to Supervisor
  • Support with 1st day induction activities. Check that team members have undergone full inductions
  • Provide day to day on the job coaching and refer any training needs to Supervisors. Ensure team members are trained appropriately for the machinery they are using
Business Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience working within the Grounds Maintenance Industry
  • Practical and demonstrable experience within a Team Leader capacity managing teams of four or more
  • Familiar and comfortable working in inclement weather conditions
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to lead, motivate and organise teams of Operatives
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to make decisions based on productivity and client needs
Functional / Technical Skills
  • Able to undertake and clear MOD/background security checks (essential)
  • Sound working knowledge of Health & Safety, IOSH qualified or equivalent (qualification desirable)
  • Competent with operating grounds maintenance machinery; Ride on Mowers, Pedestrian Mowers, Strimmers, Hedge cutters and blowers (essential)
  • PA1 & PA6 Spraying Licence (essential)
  • Full driving licence including (essential)
  • B&E Trailer Licence (essential)
  • Basic mechanical knowledge of horticultural machinery maintenance (essential)
  • IT literate in Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, Outlook)
